India stands at a pivotal moment where artificial intelligence can help reimagine education not by replacing teachers, but by amplifying their reach, personalizing learning, and expanding opportunity at scale. With policy momentum around AI in schools and growing national investment in digital learning and AI-focused education initiatives, the real question is no longer whether AI belongs in education, but how India can use it responsibly and inclusively. This talk explores how AI can support teachers, bridge learning gaps, and help prepare students for a rapidly changing world, while ensuring that human judgment, ethics, and equity remain at the center of the classroom. Maruti Venkata is a technology leader working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, finance, and strategy, serving as a Director in the technology vertical of D. E. Shaw India, a leading global investment management firm. In his current role, he leads the technical team for the firm’s largest discretionary business unit and co-leads the Generative AI infrastructure team, building platforms that support research, decision-making in high-stakes financial environments. With more than a decade and a half of experience in asset management and broader finance, he has architected technology infrastructures that power complex financial modelling and data-driven investment processes. He holds a B.Tech from Thapar University, an M.S. from BITS Pilani, and an MBA from the Indian School of Business (ISB), and is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and Agile Certified Practitioner (ACP) from PMI.
